Skinny Bitch Jesus Meeting

Here’s the third of our extended reports from the Edinburgh Festival, featuring interviews with a few of the best acts on the Free Fringe cut with clips from their shows...

Hailing from New York, sketch duo ‘Skinny Bitch Jesus Meeting’, aka Leah Rudick and Katie Hartman, add some diversity to our Edinburgh interviewee line-up which is otherwise a little dominated by Englishmen.

Their debut Edinburgh show, 'Misery Eats Company', prompted The Guardian’s Entertainment Editor, Paul MacInnes, to name them this year’s ‘Biggest Revelation’.

Joey Page

Here’s our interview with surreal storytelling stand-up, Joey Page. We’re just up the road from Just the Tonic’s Edinburgh venue at the caves where he was performing his first Edinburgh show ‘Eccentric Treasure of the Future’.

To find out where and when you can see him go to his Facebook page: www.facebook.com/search/?q=joey+page&init=quick#/profile.php?id=694046285&ref=share

(Don’t get him confused with his namesake, who is funny for the wrong reasons – ridiculous American teen pop heartthrob, Joey Page: http://joeypage.net.)

Celia Pacquola

Australian comic Celia Pacquola fell into stand-up three years ago when her boyfriend entered her into a Melbourne open-mic competition. She’s barely looked back since. Her first hour-long solo show ‘Am I strange?’ won her the 2009 Age Critics Award for Best Australian Show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. It also earned her an invite to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe, where we grabbed an interview with her.

Story Pirates

Here’s the second of our extended reports from the Edinburgh Festival, featuring interviews with a few of the best acts on the Free Fringe cut with clips from their shows...

We met up with Charlie and Robin from the Story Pirates for a chat about their two daily shows, featuring sketch and improvised comedy, shadow puppetry and plenty of dancing.

If you’re in London you can catch them on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at The Wilmington Arms, Clerkenwell, and on the first Sunday of every month at The Macbeth Pub, Hoxton.

You’ll find more about The Story Pirates on their Facebook page:

Tommy and the Weeks

Here’s our interview with sketch double-act ‘Tommy and the Weeks’ – Tom Bell and Ed weeks. We had a chat with them in a bustling Pleasance Courtyard after their 2009 Edinburgh show, 'Wonderbang!'

You can watch the rest of their BBC Comedy Extra sketches at: www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/extra/show/p002qt2g

Marvellous Dorians

Here’s the first of our extended reports from the Edinburgh Festival, featuring interviews with a few of the best acts on the Free Fringe cut with clips from their shows...

We caught up with The Marvellous Dorians, aka Emeka Ene and Luke Courtenay-Smith, in the Rowan Caves’ bar after their show first Edinburgh show, ‘Peggyweight Champion of the World’.

To find out where you can next catch their next show, go to their Facebook page (although watch out for a name change as apparently they may soon be known as the Glorious Dorians):

Andrew O’Neill on the Jonas Brothers

Andrew O’Neill really doesn’t like the Jonas Brothers. Here’s why.

Andrew O’Neill interview

Andrew O’Neill is not your average stand-up comedian. He loves death metal, he cross dresses and dabbles with black magic. We grabbed a chat with O’Neill, who was nominated for Chortle breakthrough act earlier this year, to find out a bit more about his 2009 Edinburgh show ‘Occult Comedian’.

Here’s his website: www.andrewoneill.co.uk/frontpage.html

Daniel Sloss

At 18 years of age, Daniel Sloss was the youngest stand-up comedian performing at the 2009’s Edinburgh Fringe. He started doing stand-up two years ago after nabbing a work experience placement with Frankie Boyle. We caught up with him on his day-off from his debut Edinburgh show ‘Teenage Kicks’ in a little courtyard just off Edinburgh’s Royal Mile.

Here’s his website: http://www.danielsloss.co.uk/

Carl Donnelly

There are few comedians easier to interview than Carl Donnelly. The title of his first solo Edinburgh ‘Relax Everyone: It’s Carl Donnelly’, sums him up nicely. Onstage, he’s likable, laid-back and tells silly stories. Offstage, he’s…likable, laid-back and tells silly stories.

He was nominated for Best Newcomer at this year’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards and will surely be a household name before too long.

His podcast with fellow stand-up Chris Martin is well worth a listen: http://carldonnelly.webs.com/podcast.htm
